FOUNDERS

Damiano and Assunta Ali

 

our story

The founders are Damiano and Assunta Ali. They moved to

Tucson in1965 from Calabria, Italy. They opened their first

restaurant in 1972 located near the University of Arizona.

In 1975 they relocated to Stone and Drachman, and

renamed the restaurant to Damiano’s.

Damiano Ali opened the current restaurant in May of 1989.

He purchased the location from a plant nursery. The

original name of the restaurant was Michelangelo’s

Ristorante Italiano. In 2017 we remodeled the restaurant,

and updated the name to Bottega Michelangelo. 

 

Our recipes are passed down from generations, and are

mostly from the south of Italy.

 

Our concept today is “Italy to Table” comfort food.

Everything is made fresh in house.
